The McMinn Senior Activity Center is pleased to announce that, they are offering once again fresh pecans at the Center and they will be offered earlier. “Traditionally pecan sales at the Center began the day of the annual craft show,” said Diane Hutsell, Executive Director of the McMinn Senior Activity Center. “We will have pecans available at this year’s sale, on Saturday, November 23rd. But because the community has been so wonderfully supportive of the Senior Activity Center since the Center first opened in 1974 and especially the last few years, we want to thank everyone by not only making the pecans available a few weeks early, but we are offering them at a great price.” You can prepay or purchase your pecans by cash, check or credit card. There is a $1 convenience fee if paying by card. Large pecan halves will be available to preorder at a discount through Monday, October 21 for $11 per pound. After the 21st pecan prices will be $12 a pound for large halves until they sell out. “The bonus to our pecans is that every dollar of every sale will go towards supporting at-risk senior citizens in our community. Many people don’t realize that we serve over 9,000 meals a year as well as offer free assistance with Medicare planning, and tax preparation”, continued Hutsell. “Basically,” she added, “we help older adults cut through much, if not most of the red tape that can come just from getting older. I am especially proud of our Senior Advocate Program as we are the only senior center in the state of Tennessee that has a staff member dedicated to helping senior citizens find and access senior benefits at a local, state, and national level.” For more information on how to preorder your pecans or on the Activity Center and its many services, contact the Center at 423-745- 6830 or stop by from 8a-4p at 205 McMinn Ave; Athens, TN 37303.
