McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy is alerting the public about a phone scam in which a caller, falsely identifying himself as "David Freeman with the McMinn County Sheriff's Office," demands payment of a "fine" to avoid jail time. Sheriff Guy emphasized that there is no such officer employed by the department and that law enforcement agencies will never call individuals to request payment of fines. Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and to contact their local police department or the sheriff's office to verify the legitimacy of the call, which is likely a scam. "Don’t be a victim. Hang up and call us!" Sheriff Guy advised. Source: Sheriff Joe Guy - Facebook
