Justice Alito questions possibility of political compromise in secret recording

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is heard questioning whether compromise between the left and right is possible in a conversation posted on social media.

Former president Trump met with a New York City probation officer today for a pre-sentencing interview. They met over video for a first step in the sentencing process, in which an officer assesses the convicted criminal’s living situation, finances, mental health, addiction, and criminal record. Trump was expected to have his lawyer, Todd Blanche, with him when he linked in from Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. Judge Juan Merchan will take the information from the interview into account when he sentences Trump. He will also consider that Trump was held in contempt 10 times during the trial for violating the gag order designed to stop him from attacking witnesses and court personnel and their families.

Governor Bill Lee signed a bill recently that authorizes a new state law that allows the overdosereducing drug Narcan into schools. It's one step that might help in the fight against opioid overdoses. The legislation allowing students, staff, and visitors to carry naloxone received bipartisan support. Staff, teachers, and even students will be able to carry the nasal spray version of Narcan on school grounds. So if an emergency happens, they can save a life. According to the CDC, Tennessee has the second highest overdose death rate in the nation behind West Virginia, and 91% of drug overdoses in young people involve opioids. The FDA allowed the nasal spray version to be sold over the counter last year. It’s available at most pharmacies. Healthcare workers say that an accidental dose of Narcan taken by someone wouldn't have any side effects.

Tennessee among five worst states for LGBTQ equality, report says - NewsBreak

"In Tennessee, we dare to believe boys do not belong in the bathroom with girls, girls should not have to compete against boys; gender mutilation is wrong for a minor. If this is bad for equality, then so be it," House Republican Caucus Chairman Jeremy Faison wrote on X in response to the report.

Still Digging: Justice Alito

At some point, he should stop digging and start recusing. There was more bad news for Justice Alito today. This news involves a reporter who surreptitiously, and while representing herself to be someone she isn’t (a like-minded conservative), taped a brief conversation with the Justice at a Supreme Court Historical Society dinner. I’ve attended similar dinners at the Court; often these are black-tie affairs where regular folk, or at least folk who belong to an organization entitled to hold a dinner or reception at the Court, can rub shoulders with the Justices. Certainly, the last thing on Justice Alito’s mind was that the woman who presented herself as sympathetic to his views was a reporter.
