The general election for county office holders and the primary election for state-wide offices was held yesterday across Tennessee. All local McMinn County office holders ran un-opposed. In state races, US Senator Marsha Blackburn received 1,523 local votes and her only opponent in the Republican primary, Tres Whittum, received 134 votes. Blackburn easily won re -nomination across the state and will face one of the “Tennessee Three”, Gloria Johnson, who won the Democratic Primary. In the Etowah City Commission race, Diana Elrod and Brian Ragsdale were elected with 41% and 37% of the vote respectively. Jeffrey E. Williams and Jessica Blair Goodin were elected to the Etowah School Board with 40% and 38% of the vote respectively. State Representative Mark Cochran was unopposed and will face Democrat David Thomforde, who was un-opposed in the Democratic primary in District 23. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann ran unopposed in the GOP District 3 primary race and will face Jack Allen, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
