✓ The McMinn Senior Activity Center is pleased to welcome the
Cherokee Beekeepers Association to the Center on Tuesday, May 16th at
12 pm. This program is free to the public and open to everyone and is a
great opportunity to learn about the role bees play in our lives. There will
also be a live display hive. While the common belief is that beekeepers
are mainly interested in producing honey, bees play a vital role in farming. The mission of the Cherokee Beekeepers Association revolves
around the importance of the honeybee, particularly for its effect on
agriculture. For example, did you know that bees pollinate a third of our
food. One out of every three bites you put in your mouth was pollinated
by honeybees. Without the honeybee, we would lose 30% of our fruits
and vegetables almost immediately. The Cherokee Beekeepers work
to raise awareness of the honeybee as a pollinator, not a honey producer. For information on the Cherokee Beekeepers Association program, or
any other program at the McMinn Senior Activity Center, call 423-745-
6830 or find the center’s programs online at: mcminnseniors.com or you
can find the center on Facebook. You can also learn more about the
Cherokee Beekeepers Association on their Facebook page at Cherokee
Beekeepers.
