The McMinn Meigs Assist program through the United Way of McMinn & Meigs Counties (UWMM) still has funds available to assist with rent, utility, and food to any residents who have experienced an unexpected occurrence such as loss of income, medical emergency, or disaster. This program was made available through TVA Community Cares Funds. As of the end of June, 25 applications have been received and five families have been assisted with rent, utilities, and food in the amount of $3,000. “So many of our neighbors in our community are struggling and have fallen behind on their rent or utilities due to job loss, reduced wages, and medical emergencies,” said Paige Zabo, UWMM President and CEO. “This is a very challenging time for so many working families who may have to choose between paying their rent or utilities or buying their medication or food for their family. We hope this program will help them recover from whatever financial distress they have experienced.” All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and reside in McMinn or Meigs counties. You can request an application by calling 423-252-4798 and leaving a message, and a McMinn-Meigs Assist agent will return your call. Applications will also be available on the United Way website by clicking on the Our Impact tab and McMinn Assist at www.uwmcminn-meigs.com. All completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to United Way of McMinn & Meigs Counties, P.O. Box 1681, Athens, TN 37371. Applications are NOT available at the United Way office. If you have any questions regarding the application or program, please call 423-252- 4798.
