Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)- (January 26, 2024 – January 10, 2025) Meets on at UT Extension, 2345 Denso Dr., Athens (11am – noon) in the Conference Room. Free (grant-funded). Register 423-744-3249. Research shows: After about 3 years, the DPP shows participants in the DPP Lifestyle Change Program lowered their chances of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. Class goals: Lose 7 percent of body weight and maintain that weight loss by eating less fat and fewer calories and exercising 150 minutes per week. Participants will work with local CDC trained lifestyle coaches Joy Daniels and Sarah Kite to learn the skills needed to make lasting lifestyle changes. You will learn to eat healthy, add physical activity to your life, manage stress, stay motivated and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes. DPP groups meet once a week for 16 weeks, then once a month for 6 months to help maintain your lifestyle changes. See the attached schedule. Each participant receives incentives to help with weight loss and increase physical activity. Class limited to 15 participants.
