Long before modern highways, the Old Federal Road served as a vital route through the Overhill. It connected communities and shaped early travel, trade, and migration across the region. Stretching through all three Overhill counties, this historic corridor holds a plethora of stories involving Cherokee history, British colonialism and early American expansion.

To learn more, join us this Thursday, May 7 at the Gem Theater in Etowah for a special presentation by local author Jim Swayne. Drawing from his book The Old Federal Road, Jim will share the history of the route along with video footage of locations that still exist today.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the lecture begins at 7:00 PM.
