At first glance, it looks like a sci-fi movie. What appear to be two drones, streaking across the night sky in Moscow, head straight for the Kremlin, on target to hit the historic Senate Palace, the official residence of Vladimir Putin.

Florida Republicans pass bills on pronoun usage at schools, ban on diversity programs

Florida Republicans have approved bills to ban diversity programs in colleges and prevent students and teachers from being required to use pronouns that don’t correspond to someone’s sex, building on top priorities of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed a law that puts book sellers, publishers and distributors at risk for criminal prosecution.

The Gem Players open their 30th season with Horton

Foote’s heartwarming and touching drama, The Trip to

Bountiful. Show dates are May 4, 5, 6 at 7:30 p.m. and

May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Historic Gem Theater in Etowah.

Tickets for general admission for adults and youth are $15.

 County Road 718 aka The Nipper Road, will be closed

beginning Monday, May 8th thru Friday, May 12th, from

8:30 am to 5:30 pm daily for Sink Hole repair by TDOT.

The McMinn County Election Commission Office will have a vendor table at the Veterans All Call, Friday May 5th, 9:00 am-4:00 pm at the Athens Regional Park Conference Center. You can register to vote, update voter registration information, and get information on 2024 upcoming elections.

✓ The McMinn Regional Humane Society is having a fundraiser yard sale Saturday, May 6th 8am-2pm and Sunday, May 7th 12pm-4pm. at 3 Davidson Road, Athens, just past L&M Motors and Smith Funeral Home on Hwy 30 Eastbound. All proceeds go to the care of animals in need.

✓ Athens VFW Post 5146 is having a yard sale Saturday, May 6th beginning at 7 am. Lots of items will be available. It will be located on the front lawn.
