To the editor,

Once again, surprise surprise, I disagree with Mr. Samoska (June 24 edition).

The speakers who opposed the Pride exhibit kept repeating the words "protect our children" as if library staff were chasing after young children and teens and pressing pride material on them. On the contrary, the library exhibit was placed in the back of the library where it could be avoided by small children.

Teenagers who are satisfied with their gender identify had no need of the exhibit. The high suicide rate among LGTBQ+ teens is due to feeling isolated – the exhibit was important to them.

Finally, Mr. Samoska has every right to live within his version of the Judeo-Christian tradition (although biblical scholars disagree about the biblical viewpoint of homosexuality) but we live in a secular nation where religion has no place in government.

The city council should reconsider its decision and allow the library to put the Pride exhibit up once more.
