The McMinn County School Board met in regular session yesterday at 5:30. The three main items of business were (1) the acceptance of a $5.5 million education grant from the State of Tennessee,

of which $3.5 million will go to McMinn County elementary schools

and $2 million will be used to improve McMinn County’s two high

schools (2) the board also passed a zero tolerance policy on vaping at

all county schools; and (3) the school board approved several county

school teachers for tenure.

The Etowah Friendly Garden Club has announced a date change for its February meeting. The club will meet on Monday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Etowah Community Center, located at 155 Robinson Street. The date change was made as the regular date of the second Tuesday of the month fell on Valentine’s Day. The guest speaker will be topiary sculptor Topiary Joe of Tellico Plains, who has created living sculpture topiary for homes, gardens and resorts, as well as living corporate logos around the world.
