Mediators look to extend truce in Gaza on its final day, with one more hostage swap planned

International mediators appeared to have made progress Wednesday on extending the truce in Gaza. They are encouraging the territory’s Hamas rulers to keep freeing hostages in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners and further respite from Israel’s air and ground offensive.

Rosalynn Carter set for funeral and burial in the town where she and her husband were born

Rosalynn Carter is set to receive her final accolades and farewells in Plains, Georgia. It's the same tiny town where the former first lady was born. There, she and former President Jimmy Carter based his 1976 presidential campaign and returned after their White House years as they became global humanitarians.

Nikki Haley wins backing from powerful Koch network as she aims to take on Trump

The political arm of the powerful Koch network has endorsed Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign. Americans for Prosperity promises to commit its nationwide army of activists and virtually unlimited funds to help Haley defeat former President Donald Trump in the GOP primary contest.

Gov pushes private school vouchers for all students statewide – Tennessee Lookout

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee made a move Tuesday to offer private school vouchers for every student statewide, regardless of family income.

The Red Shoe Gala will be December 9th at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 1291 E. Madison Avenue in Athens. The event is a wonderful evening of supporting the children in our community and fundraising to better support the mission of CASA. Doors open at 6 pm. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served and dinner begins at 6:45. There will be Christmas music and a silent auction. Guest speakers will be Angela and Billy Brock.

The City of Athens is hosting a photography contest to celebrate its friendly atmosphere! The contest will run until December 31and the theme is “The Friendly City.” Photographers of all levels are encouraged to submit their best work for a chance to win a gift certificate for a local business. This contest is a great opportunity for photographers to showcase their talents and capture the spirit of Athens. Photos should be taken in Athens and should capture the essence of what makes it such a friendly place. Photographers can submit multiple photos and will be considered. The winning photographs will be featured in an online gallery on the city’s websites, as well as in local media outlets and promotional marketing.
