Tens of thousands of supporters of Israel rally in Washington, crying 'never again'

Supporters of Israel have rallied by the tens of thousands on Washington's National Mall, voicing solidarity in the fight against Hamas and crying “never again.”

This evening, by a vote of 336 to 95, the House of Representatives passed a bill to fund the government. Pushed by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), the measure funds the government at current spending levels. Funding for different parts of the government will run out on two separate dates: January 19 and February 2. The measure does not include any funding for military aid to Israel or Ukraine.

The Tennessee Department of Correction seek a $9.8 million budget boost linked to a pay increase for private prison operator CoreCivic.

United Way is teaming up again with Food City to host the 17th annual Celebrity Bagging Event in support of their annual fundraising campaign. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 21st from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Local celebrities from throughout the region have volunteered their time and talents to bag groceries at participating Food City locations. Shoppers who wish to do so can contribute to the United Way at the checkouts, via collection containers; or they can elect to have their contribution conveniently added to their grocery total. All donations will benefit area United Way campaigns. The United Way allocates resources to member agencies that address the most pressing human service needs. Food City is located at 105 South Hill Street in Athens and will be participating.
