After 11 ballots, the Republicans remain unable to elect a speaker and thus unable to organize the House. After passing comprehensive laws on a wide range of issues with a similarly small House majority under Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) during the last Congress, the Democrats remain united behind Hakeem Jeffries. They have delivered 212 votes for him 11 times.

Stockard on the Stump: Lawmakers line up to add exceptions to abortion law – Tennessee Lookout

Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, is saying he would back exceptions to abortion restrictions, although the procedure will remain banned.

Local News:

 The Good Faith Clinic will be open Tuesdays, Jan 10th,

24th, and 31st at 3 p.m. for refills and at 3:30 p.m. for doctor

visits. The GFC is for residents of McMinn and Meigs Counties that are under the age of 65 and have no health insurance.

 MEDIC has a critical need for O Negative blood at this

time. They have less than a one-day supply of O Neg currently

and have about 30 units to be labeled. If you can donate blood

at this time, they are located at 213 E Washington Avenue in

Athens. Their hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through

Friday.
