State News:

Tennessee will become the first U.S. state to provide free diapers to families enrolled in its Medicaid program, starting in August. The program will offer up to 100 diapers per month for children under 2. Delaware is extending a similar pilot program that provides free diapers and wipes to postpartum parents for the first three months after birth, allowing up to 80 diapers and one pack of wipes per week.

This initiative addresses a critical need, as 92% of families using diapers in Tennessee are working but still cannot afford them. The National Diaper Bank Network highlights the growing demand for diapers amid rising living costs. The programs in both states aim to support families, reduce health risks like diaper rash, and alleviate the stress associated with diaper need, which is linked to maternal depression and stress.

Parents in Tennessee will be able to collect diapers through pharmacies in the network, and further details will be provided by TennCare. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved Delaware's program extension for another five years, emphasizing the health benefits for both babies and parents.
